RUDOLF M. HUBER,
Professor of Medicine at Ludwig-Maximilians-University Munich, is head of the Department of Respiratory Medicine and Thoracic Oncology at the University campus Innenstadt. He chairs also the Thoracic Oncology Centre Munich and is member of the German Centre for Lung Research. His clinical and scientific interest is focused on Thoracic Oncology.

After graduating from Medical School, he began his training in Internal Medicine in Munich. After his time as physician in the German Army he continued training in Internal and Respiratory Medicine. In 1983 he returned to the Ludwig-Maximilians-University Munich at the Campus Innensta dt and is department head since 1984. He is active in all relevant national and international societies and is or was board member of the German Respiratory Society, the section of medical oncology (AIO) of the German Cancer Society and the European Respiratory Society.

Starting with endoscopic treatment and early detection he intensified interdisciplinary multimodality treatment focussing on radiochemotherapy. Targeted treatment is a further focus in his work. He is principal investigator of various multicentre studies. In the lab reactions of the bronchial wall and stroma-tumour interactions as well as reactions to therapeutic interventions including targeted and combined treatment modalities are investigated using complex systems like organ co-cultures, lung slices and stem cells.
